Children ages 4-13 years | All levels | Skiers and Riders | 2.5 hours

Youth Group Lessons are for skiers or riders ages 4-13 of all ability levels. Children are assigned to groups based on their age and ability. The instructional focus of the lesson is to develop skiing and riding fundamentals in a fun and supportive learning environment. Instructors employ an age-appropriate play-based PSIA-AASI teaching model. These lessons are ideal for students looking to have fun sliding outside, make new friends, learn new skills, and gain confidence on the snow.

Group Lessons MUST be purchased online. Quantities are limited and subject to availability. Rental equipment and helmets NOT included. Children must be picked up by parent or guardian from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

All Youth Lesson participants must check in to pick up their lesson tickets and RFID cards (if applicable) at the Rental Shop. The Rental Shop is located on the right as you enter the parking lot. If guests have a season pass and their own equipment, they are still asked to check in prior to their lesson. The Snowsports school strongly recommends that guests are on the snow 10 minutes before the lesson’s start time to allow our supervisors to group guests according to age and ability.

Check-in opens at 7:45 a.m. (weekends and holiday periods) or 8:30 a.m. (weekdays). The check-in process can take up to thirty minutes.

Rentals are not included with Youth Lessons, and rental pick-up is separate from lesson check-in. If you need to pick up rentals, guests should allow an ADDITIONAL 45 minutes to 1 hour for the rental equipment fitting process.

Youth Lessons meet directly behind the Rental building.

Supervisors in the Blue Butternut Snowsports jackets can assist guests in determining the exact meeting location for a lesson which depends on the guest’s age and ability.

Late Arrivals: We cannot guarantee accommodation for participants who arrive at their lesson meeting place past the scheduled lesson start time.

IF MY CHILD IS IN A LESSON, CAN I LEAVE THE AREA?
We ask that parents or guardians stay on the Ski Butternut property and are accessible by phone.

WILL THE SNOWSPORTS SCHOOL NOTIFY PARENTS OR GUARDIANS IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY?
All lesson participants have a contact phone number on their lesson ticket. In case of an emergency the Snowsports School or Ski Patrol will call that contact number. When checking-in we recommend that parents/guardians ensure the phone number is accurate.

CAN AN INSTRUCTOR CARRY/ADMINISTER MY CHILD’S MEDICATION DURING THEIR LESSON?
Instructors may NOT carry or administer any medication for a guest (regardless of age).

CAN MY CHILD USE PULL-UPS, TRAINERS, OR DIAPERS AND PARTICIPATE IN YOUTH LESSONS?
Students must be able to use the bathroom independently. It is also expected that students have the ability to communicate their need to use the bathroom to an instructor. The use of pull-ups, trainers, or diapers are not alternatives to being potty-trained/ independent bathroom use.

You know your child best, but we have some suggestions to prepare your child for a fun day on the snow!

A good night's sleep, breakfast, and appropriate clothing are essential. Being well-rested is vital because having fun in the snow is hard work. Breakfast is important because kids lose energy quickly in the cold and new environments. Appropriate clothing keeps students warm and dry so they can focus on having fun.

Please review our HOW TO DRESS GUIDE to best decide on gear for your child.

Plan extra time on the first day. It always takes more time than you think it will! If renting equipment, be prepared to spend 45 minutes to an hour going through the fitting process. Please understand that on busy weekends and holidays, the Rental Shop can get crowded and feel overwhelming for some of our youngest guests.

Finally, find ways to get your child excited about taking a lesson at Butternut. You can watch videos on Ski Butternut's YouTube Channel or read books about skiing and riding (A B Skis and Goodnight, Snowboard are great options!). It can be helpful for children to try on their gear a few days before the lesson to gain some familiarity with how it feels. We also encourage you to spend time talking with your younger children about what their lesson will be like. Ensure they understand that you will not be with them and will be back to pick them up at the end of the lesson. Explain that they will be safe and have fun and that it is okay to miss you and have fun at the same time.
