Beginner Trails
Cruiser
Easiest way down the east side of the mountain. Ideal for those who just graduated from our beginner hill and know how to ride the beginner lift. Great for beginners trying to test their newly found skills. Enjoy lunch on the fabulous Sun Deck at the bottom or enjoy a picnic on a beautiful spring day. Serviced by the Cruiser Quad so families can ride together. Also home to the Cruiser Progression Park so the adventuresome set in the family can learn to slide boxes, rails or to take a little air. Enjoy a cruise on this our widest beginner slope.
Crosstown
This long beginner trail crosses the mountain providing you with access to 7 trails. Coupled with a trip down Pied Piper and over to Crosstown it makes for our longest run at 1.5 miles. Trail is directly accessible from the Highline Quad. An ideal trail for families with young kids who have graduated from the beginner hill and want to take the easiest route over to Cruiser.
Nuthatch
Named for the bird that climbs down trees head first... not the way we want you to travel this trail! A beautiful and scenic trail set aside as one of our SLOW ZONES which make it more comfortable for families and novices. Easily accessible from the Highline Quad chairlift.
Pied Piper
Pied Piper leads you gently off the 1800 foot summit to a wide variety of trails. Choose between green, blue or black diamond trail(s) or terrain parks. Serviced exclusively by the Top Flight chairlift.
Uptown
This trail is the easiest way down from the top of Jane's Quad and is a family-friendly favorite. From this trail, you can access Fidler or Crosstown and connecting trails.
Paddy's
Our beginners' learning area. Safe, comfortable, and wide, offering an ideally short lift ride for beginners. A great place to learn and practice, so you are prepared when you want to move further up the mountain. After mastering this area, we would suggest Cruiser or Nuthatch. Serviced by Paddy's beginner chairlift.
Skiwee
A small beginner area tucked away to provide a protected area for those just learning to ski or ride. No merging trails to worry about. Serviced by 4 learning carpets. Provides an awesome place for photos as you have the rest of the mountain as a backdrop.
Intermediate Trails
Dipsy
A beautiful trail that isn't skied very much. Majestic white pines & stately hemlocks line much of the trail. Close to Cruiser it's best to ride the Cruiser chairlift up and then hang a right off the chair to enjoy this trail. FYI this trail usually has fresh corduroy to offer till noon.
Upper Applejack
A long intermediate cruiser that weaves through the top of the mountain. Great for carving and building speed control. This trail is accessed from Top Flight.
Lower Applejack
A long intermediate cruiser that weaves through the bottom half of the mountain. Great for carving and building speed control. Access from Upper Apple or Crosstown.
Hobnob
Hobnob is a mellow intermediate trail that is located under the Top Flight Quad. Show off your best turns for all to see! Access from Lucifer's Leap or Crosstown.
Main Street
Main Street is an intermediate trail designed for cruising. Its consistent pitch and consistent fall line make it a favorite for big, wide GS-style turns. Access from the top of the Highline lift, or Crosstown, Nuthatch, or Twist trails.
Twist
Twist is an intermediate trail and home to the Twisted Terrain Park - a large park featuring jumps, rails, and boxes for freestyle riders of all levels. Regularly maintained and redesigned. Twist is accessed from Crosstown.
Fiddler
Fiddler is an intermediate trail and provides easy access from the main mountain to Jane's Quad. Fiddler connects to Downspout and can be accessed from Uptown or Pied Piper.
Freewheeler
Freewheeler is a fan favorite because of its steady pitch, great snow, and amazing views. It offers a dynamic and engaging descent for skiers looking to refine their skills. This trail is groomed in a classic style, ensuring a smooth surface ideal for practicing carving turns and maintaining control at moderate speeds. Its consistent pitch and flow make it a favorite among intermediate skiers seeking to challenge themselves without venturing into advanced terrain. Access from Jane's Quad.
Advanced Trails
Lucifer's Leap
Lucifer's Leap is a black diamond trail, offering a challenging descent for advanced skiers. As one of the original summit trails when the resort opened in 1963, Lucifer's Leap holds historical significance at Ski Butternut. The trail's steep pitch and narrow profile demand precise control and confident technique, making it a favorite among seasoned skiers seeking a thrilling run. Its location near the summit provides scenic views of the surrounding Berkshire Mountains, enhancing the overall experience. "The Leap" as it is referred to by locals, is accessed from Top Flight.
Whip
Whip is a black diamond run designed for advanced skiers seeking an alternative to Pied Piper. This trail's undulations and curves make it a unique New England groomer.
Race Course
The Race Course at Ski Butternut is a black diamond trail designed for advanced skiers seeking a challenging descent. Its steep pitch and consistent fall line make it a favorite for competitive training and seasoned skiers looking to test their skills. Access Race Course from Nuthatch, Main Street, or Twist.
West Way
West Way is a black diamond run designed for experienced skiers seeking a challenging descent. It is home to the Twisted terrain park featuring medium to large features, including boxes, rails, tables, and more. The trail's steep grade and park features make it one of the most challenging trails on the Mountain. If you're planning to tackle West Way, ensure you're well-prepared and confident in your skiing abilities to fully enjoy the challenges this trail presents.
Downspout
Downspout is a black diamond run designed for advanced skiers seeking a challenging descent. This trail is one of the steep trails and sometimes has moguls. Due to its challenging terrain, it is recommended for experienced skiers comfortable with steep terrain. Downspout can be accessed from Jane's Quad.
Chute
Chute, although often overlooked, is often the first Black Diamond trail skier's graduate to when learning! A small but might trail, it can be accessed from Nuthatch or the Race Course.
Terrain Parks
Cruiser Progression Park
Whether you're new to riding park or just want to switch it up and get technical on smaller stuff, our Cruiser Progression Park offers scaled-down features that are designed for learning. You'll find smaller boxes, rails, and jumps. Access this park from the Cruiser Quad lift.
Twisted Terrain Park
This park is loaded with natural features, like log rides and rock jibs, many more man-made features like the wall ride and twenty-six rail features, which are constantly being rotated in and out, and two impressive jump lines ranging from small tables to more classic 30-foot step-downs. Twisted Terrain Park is easy to find when you're on the mountain. You can drop in on your way down from the Top Flight summit Quad via Pied Piper, or access the park from Jane's Quad via Uptown. Your other option is to access Twisted by taking a few quick laps off the Highline Quad, which delivers you just a few feet away from the Twisted Terrain Park entrance.
